Statement from Keck Medicine of USC Regarding California Nurses Association Strike

Keck Medicine of USC is in contract negotiations with the California Nurses Association (CNA), which represents more than 1,400 registered nurses at Keck Hospital of USC, USC Norris Cancer Hospital and select clinic locations. CNA notified us of their intent to strike beginning at 6:59 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19 through 6:59 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26.

While we respect the union’s right to strike, we are disappointed by their decision. In November 2025, both the union and Keck Medicine agreed to work with a federal mediator to facilitate discussions. After two productive sessions with the mediator, the parties reached a tentative agreement that included generous wage increases, availability of a no-premium health plan for nurses, and an increase in resource nurse staff to help support nurses’ ability to rest and recharge during their shifts, among other improvements. Unfortunately, the tentative agreement was not ratified.

Our top priority during the strike – as always – is the safety and well-being of our patients and employees. Hospital and clinic operations remain open and fully staffed with doctors, nurses and all other clinical professionals, allowing us to continue our commitment to exceptional patient care.  

We remain committed to negotiating in good faith and look forward to collaborative discussions with CNA to reach agreements that are fair, provide competitive pay and benefits, and reflect our dedication and support of our staff.
